Is Mammographic Breast Density an Endophenotype for Breast Cancer?

نویسندگان

چکیده

Mammographic breast density (MBD) is a strong and highly heritable predictor of cancer risk biomarker for the disease. This study systematically assesses MBD as an endophenotype cancer—a quantitative trait that genetically correlated with disease risk. Using data from family-based kConFab Study 1994/1995 cross-sectional Busselton Health Study, participants were divided into three status groups—cases, relatives cases controls. Participant’s mammograms used to measure absolute dense area (DA) percentage (PDA). To address each criterion, linear mixed models heritability analysis conducted. Both measures significantly associated in two independent samples. These also heritable. Meta-analyses both studies showed higher compared (β = 0.48, 95% CI 0.10, 0.86 β 0.41, 0.06, 0.78 DA PDA, respectively) controls 0.16, −0.24, 0.56 −0.21, 0.53 respectively). formally demonstrates, first time, cancer.

Mammographic breast density, endocrine therapies, and breast cancer risk

MBD and breast cancer risk Elevated MBD is considered one of the strongest risk factors for breast cancer regardless of whether it is assessed as a categorical or quantitative measure.6 Women in the highest categories of breast density have a 4to 6-fold increased breast cancer risk compared with women in the lowest categories. MBD has been shown to be a stronger risk factor for breast cancer th...

Association between mammographic breast density and breast cancer tumor characteristics.

OBJECTIVE Few studies have examined the association between breast density and breast cancer tumor characteristics. We examined the association between hormonal, proliferative, and histologic tumor characteristics and mammographic breast density in women with breast cancer. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional analysis in 546 women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer to evaluate the assoc...

Investigating the Factors Affecting the Mammographic Density of Breast Tissue in Patients Referred to the Breast Cancer Research Center, Iran

Introduction: Of the factors leading to false negative results in mammography is breast tissue density, and by increasing the density of breast tissue in mammography, the mammography sensitivity decreases. On the other hand, increasing the breast tissue density leads to increased risk of breast cancer. Various factors such as inheritance, genetics, hormonal and reproductive factors, and nutriti...

Mammographic density--a risk factor for breast cancer.

The mammographic density belongs to risk factors for breast cancer. The increased density enhances the risk of interval breast cancers and it also increases the number of false negative as well as false positive results of the mammography. The increase in the mammographic density during the hormone replacement therapy is not identical with the enhanced mammographic density, which is a risk fact...
